Band-Aids fix everything

At least that’s what my five year old daughter thinks. She’s taken up the role of resident doctor in our household and takes her job very seriously. Bump or bruise – she’s waiting in the wings with an ice pack. Scratch or cut – she has a Band-Aid ready (usually before you). In her opinion, even having an “off” day sometimes requires a Band-Aid and you know what? It usually helps to keep the “patient” happy and moving forward without having to interrupt their day.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a system like that, in place, in the IT world? We essentially need a way to update systems securely without missing a beat, even if, behind the scenes, some “doctoring” needs to be done.

SUSE’s Live Patching can do this. What’s cool about it, is that it allows you to remain online while live patching your systems – no kernel reboot needed, which means you can easily patch when you need to and not wait for a system shutdown.

Live Patching provides you three key benefits –

  • Increase service availability.
  • Reduce planned or unplanned downtime.
  • Maintain security and stability.

Downtime is expensive, even when it’s planned. You can help eliminate the need for downtime with Live Patching. Check out this chalktalk to learn more about Live Patching. And when in doubt – don’t reboot, just patch!
