KubeCrash Returns: Platform Engineering, the Cloud Native Way

Calling all cloud native enthusiasts! SUSE is excited to be participating in KubeCrash. This year’s event, happening on Wednesday, October 9th  will focus on the evolving landscape of Platform Engineering in 2024. Platform Engineering in 2024: What’s New?

The field of platform engineering is constantly growing, with new challenges and opportunities emerging all the time. KubeCrash Fall 2024 dives deep into these trends, helping you navigate the ever-evolving landscape. You’ll learn how to navigate the hype around platform engineering solutions and explore best practices for building and integrating new tools.

SUSE Session: Accelerating Development at the Edge with Platform Engineering

Deploying software to the edge presents unique challenges due to a diverse array of configurations, devices, network conditions, and environmental factors. Whether it’s deploying nodes in telecom sites, IoT devices in remote locations, or edge servers in factories, ensuring the reliability and security of these deployments is paramount. These unique aspects of edge computing highlight the need for a robust and thorough platform engineering approach to ensure the ongoing interoperability of an edge deployment’s disparate components.

Join Jason Dobies, Director Edge Engineering, SUSE and William Rizzo, Lead Architect Consultant, SUSE as they delves into the role that edge validation and CI/CD toolchains play to ensure compatibility and maintain consistency across distributed edge infrastructures to address challenges such as limited bandwidth, intermittent connectivity, varying compute capabilities and stringent security requirements and discuss emerging practices, trends and technologies.

Giving Back with Open Source and Deaf Kids Code

KubeCrash is committed to the open source community and giving back. We believe in the power of open source tools for building production-grade cloud native environments. That’s why all KubeCrash sessions focus on open source projects, empowering you to leverage freely available, secure, and customizable technologies.

But our commitment goes beyond tech. Like previous KubeCrash events, we’re partnering with a fantastic organization: Deaf Kids Code. For every registration, KubeCrash will donate $1 to support their mission of empowering deaf and hard-of-hearing children through coding education.

About KubeCrash

Now in its sixth round, KubeCrash is a female-led, open source conference and is hosted this time by six cloud native companies who teamed up to bring you top-notch, KubeCon-grade crash courses on cloud native tech. No vendor pitches, just awesome open source content. Check out the talks from KubeCrash Spring 2024 to get a sense of what to expect.

Why open source

When it comes to enterprise-grade cloud native tooling, DevOps teams often drive the technology choices to build Kubernetes production environments. Widely recognized as lower cost and more secure than proprietary software, we increasingly see engineers gravitate toward freely available open source. Open source can also be significantly easier to integrate and support than closed source solutions, which is why engineers love using them.

In short, open source has become critical to any modern technology stack. KubeCrash aims to help engineering teams develop the needed skill set to leverage these technologies in their production environments effectively. During these one-day knowledge-sharing and virtual learning sessions, developers, reliability engineers, cloud security specialists, and platform engineers will learn directly from the maintainers of some of the most popular open source projects.

The KubeCrash Program:

The KubeCrash program, will be jam-packed featuring expert talks from many industry leaders. Attendees will hear directly from industry leaders and gain practical knowledge you can implement in your own work. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the exciting sessions:
