SUSE’s Environmental Data
As we continue to progress on our ESG journey, we are committed to reporting transparently on our environmental impact. By doing so, we hold ourselves accountable while identifying new opportunities to operate efficiently and reduce emissions across our value chain. Please find SUSE’s emissions and energy consumption data below.
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions
Energy Consumption
Emissions calculations:
- For the purposes of setting inventory organizational boundaries, SUSE has adopted the Operational Control approach.SUSE’s GHG Inventory follows the guidelines set forth in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), which was developed by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in collaboration with the World Resources Institute (WRI).
- Scope 1: Direct Sources – are emissions from sources that are owned or controlled by SUSE directly. Activity data and emissions include on-site stationary combustion of fossil fuel burning equipment (e.g., heating boilers) or process based emissions (e.g. backup electricity generators). Also included, are emissions from Company-owned or leased vehicles, for whose fuel purchase SUSE is responsible.
- Scope 2: Indirect Sources – are emissions associated with the consumption of purchased or acquired electricity. Activity data and emissions include the purchase of electric power, steam, heating & cooling from the local utility.
- Scope 3: Indirect Sources – all indirect emissions (not included in Scope 2) that occur in the value chain of the reporting company, including both upstream and downstream emissions. Scope 3 data was estimated for the purpose of materiality assessment, linking input data on company activities and expenditures to a combination of economic input output and process life cycle inventory data.
- GHG emission intensity = (Scope 1 + Scope 2 (MB)) (metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent)/office area (square meter)
*In 2023 the GreenHouse Gas Protocol, a globally recognized standard for measuring, managing, and reporting greenhouse gas emissions, decommissioned their industry recommended Scope 3 emissions calculator tool called Quantis. We used a new tool for 2023 that reflects improved methodologies and modernized emissions factors for Scope 3 calculations. In order to ensure our data quality is comparable, we commit to recalculating our 2022 and 2021 Scope 3 emissions as part of the 2024 emission reporting cycle (reporting in 2025 on 2024 activities) using a single consistent tool and methodology.
*While reviewing our emissions, we identified an error in our previous calculations that impacts the CY 2020 and CY 2021 Scope 1 emissions data reported in SUSE’s FY 2022 Annual Report. The corrected calculations are now available in the above table.
