Unable to see LUNs attached to FC919 after upgrade to SLES10 SP1

This document (7000107) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1

Situation

After upgrading from SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 to SP1, the server was unable to see any LUNs attached to an LSI FC919 fibre HBA. (This fibre card uses the 'mptfc' kernel module.)

Resolution

SLES10 SP1 includes an updated mptfc driver. Under this new driver, some FC919 cards will be unable to see the attached storage devices until flashed to the latest firmware. This problem has been seen when using firmware 2.00.03 and Fcode version was 1.01.00. Flashing to firmware version 2.00.18 and Fcode version 1.00.29 (or newer), allowed this card to function properly. In some cases, the card will continue to fail until fully reset to factory defaults using the following commands:
lsiutil ‑  j fc 61
lsiutil ‑  j fc ‑  1 99
