Display resolution incorrect at boot when using XEN

This document (7000398) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

Xen server pattern
GRUB configured to default to the Xen kernel
System running in runlevel 3

During initial boot-up, the console has a small 80x50 font. However during startup, it changes to a normal 80x25 size font and so only the top half of the display is visible. This then causes confusion because the login prompt is not visible, so it could be assumed that boot-up has hung or failed.

Resolution

Workaround

Use Alt+Function key to switch to another virtual console, e.g., Alt+F2.

Status (Last updated: 2008-05-19)

This issue has been reported to development and will be looked into for a future release.
