printing from Windows via Samba fails with 0x000003e6

This document (7010207) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1

Situation

When a Windows XP/7 client connects to a Samba printer queue, views the printer's properties page and dismisses that page by using the OK button, no more clients can connect to that printer queue. Further attempts to print will fail with the error: "Windows cannot connect to the printer" and the error code: 0x000003e6

The problem is caused by a bug in the spoolss_PrinterEnumValues push path. The bug is mentioned in the Samba Bugzilla Bug 7567

Resolution

As workaround the printer can be reset by setting the printer driver to some other driver and then setting it back to the original driver.

Customers affected by this issue can alternatively contact SUSE Technical Services to request a PTF.
