NPIV LUNs are not activated automatically

This document (7012700) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2 for System z

Situation

Even though the zFCP targets have been set online with the zfcp module of YaST or zfcp_host_configure, the LUNs do not show up automatically but have to be set online with yast2 zfcp or zfcp_disk_configure.

Resolution

To enable automated attachment of NPIV LUNs, add  zfcp.allow_lun_scan=1 to the parameters line in /etc/zipl.conf for the default boot entry, run zipl, and then reboot.

Cause

Additional Information

The SLES11 SP2 release notes do not mention that automated LUN scanning is turned off by default. It is documented in the IBM Device Drivers, Features, and Commands manual, chapter Setting up the zfcp device driver, section zfcp module parameters available from http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/linux390/documentation_suse.html though.
