Formatting dasd fails with Exit code: 1

This document (7017001) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12

Situation

Formatting a disk/dasd with YaST - Hardware DASD dialog fails with:
Error - Disks formatting failed. Exit code: 1
Formatting the disk manually with 'dasdfmt' is successful.

Resolution

A future yast2-s390 update will include the patch to resolve the problem. Customers affected by this issue can also contact SUSE Technical Support to request a PTF (temporary fix).

Cause

The YaST user interface calls the format command without a write module call. So the device name will not be evaluated and formatting fails.
