Memory corruption on boot with UEFI

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)

Situation

A memory corruption issue affecting systems that use UEFI to boot

was discovered in the SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 SP1 kernel.

The function init_hibernation_keys(), which is executed exclusively

at boot time, erroneously freed a block of memory that had been

unreserved earlier and could be already re-allocated to store data

such as the initial system ram disk. In some circumstances this

could lead to a boot failure.

Resolution

Users are advised to update to the latest kernel maintenance update

released for SLE 12 SP1. Version 3.12.62-60.62.1 and newer already

include the fix for this issue
