This document (3128481) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

When attempting to shutdown a SUSE Linux Enterprise server using the Computer | Shutdown option the only selection offered is Hibernate.

Resolution

The server has shutdown and reboot from a GUI disabled by default. To add this functionality do the following:
1. Edit the /etc/opt/gnome/gdm/gdm.conf file and change to the following settings:
AllowShutdown=true
SecureShutdown=false
2. Either stop and restart gdm or simply reboot the server for the changes to take effect.
The options for Shutdown and Restart will now be available.
Note: The options are not exclusive and setting them as illustrated will provide any user with the Shutdown and Restart options.
