Winbind operations slow after updating to SLES 11

This document (7009691) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
Winbind used to authenticate AD users

Situation

Performing a su <AD User> would take thirty seconds to complete
SSH logins delayed up to 30 seconds
Slow winbind performance

Resolution

Add the following line to /etc/samba/smb.conf

name resolve order = lmhosts host wins

Additional Information

This essentially disables the NBNS broadcasts that go out attempting to locate the AD resource.  Since most environments don't forward broadcasts and often don't have their servers share a subnet; there is no real down-side to doing this.  (Assuming the name can be resolved via lmhosts, the hosts file, or wins)
