SLES11SP2 with kernel 3.0.42-0.7 experience crash on LIP reset or device change

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2

Situation

A SLES11SP2 running kernel  3.0.42-0.7 may encounter a crash if:
  1. A fibre channel LIP reset is executed or
  2. The zoning is changed and the system is no longer able to access the devices
  3. Devices are removed from the system

Messages similar to the following will appear in dmesg or /var/log/messages:

Resolution

Please update to kernel 3.0.51-0.7.9.1 or later.
