SP migration not possible in SUSE Manager due to missing products

This document (7022354) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager 3, 4, 5
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15

Situation

A SLES 12 SPx client registered to SUSE Manager must be upgraded to the next SP. However the option is not enabled, and a message like this is displayed:

There is currently no migration available for this system. Either the latest Service Pack is already installed or possible target products are not available. Please use the Setup Wizard to identify and add missing products.

Resolution

The products that do not exist in the destination SP have to be added to SUSE Manager. If those products do not exist yet, they will have to be removed.

After that, the migration will be possible.

NOTE: To see missing channels in the grayed out (not selectable) Service-Pack, move the mouse-over the grayed area and wait for the tooltip to come up with more information.

Cause

The Certifications Module does not exist for SP2, hence a client with SP1 and this module can't be migrated unless the module is removed. A "Certifications 2017" will be added at some point of time, but this is the only workaround for the time being.

There could be of course other missing modules preventing the migration though.
