Kernel update to 4.4.162-94.69 reports invalid signature on secure boot enabled systems

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 3 (SLES 12 SP3)

Situation

After updating SLES 12 SP3 to kernel to 4.4.162-94-69 booting the system fails at the grub screen with:

/boot/vmlinuz-4.4.162-94.69-default has invalid signature

Resolution

Fix:

Please update to kernel 4.4.162-94.72 or later to address this issue.

Workaround:
Please use the option "Start bootloader from a read-only snapshot" in the grub menu and boot the system with a previous working kernel. Once done, run

snapper rollback

to activate the current snapshot as new default.

Cause

A problem with the signature in the current kernel.
