NVMe drive is not accessible in UEFI mode with Intel Rapid RAID mode on

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15

Situation

SLES can't detect NVMe drives in UEFI mode with Intel Rapid RAID mode on, neither during SLES installation nor after.

Resolution

The drive can be detected by SLES by either configuring the system BIOS to boot in legacy mode, or by switching the drive to AHCI mode.

For instructions on modifying the system BIOS please see documentation from the manufacturer of the computer.

Cause

NVMe drives in UEFI mode with Intel Rapid RAID mode on are not supported in SLES due to an NVMe specification conflict.
