Aborting tailf causes bash session to be corrupted

Environment
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP4
Situation
The file /etc/bash_completion.d/python-argcomplete exists.
In some cases the same issues have been seen when an echo (e.g. in a script) is stopped with <ctrl><c>.
The issue is often seen on Azure when the following package is installed:

azure-cli-2.0.81-4.1
Resolution
Cause
The issue is described in the following github issue.
The issue is not present in bash version 4.4 used on SUSE Enterprise Server 15.
