SUSE Linux Connectivity Server provides all server services required for implementing an entire intranet including Internet connections for individual departments or small enterprises. With the SUSE Linux
Connectivity Server, even companies without Linux knowledge benefit from the proven high stability and extensive network capabilities of Linux.
Composing this new product, the SUSE developers gave emphasis to the easy installation and central configuration of all server services.
Necessary tasks during operation - such as the user administration - can be performed without special knowledge with the help of easy-to-use graphical user interfaces.
Smooth Integration in Existing Networks
As a server operating system, SUSE Linux Connectivity Server is especially convenient for deployment in heterogeneous networks, e.g. in connection with Windows or MacOS workstations. The largely pre-configured services of "Samba" and "Netatalk" enable Linux, Windows, and MacOS hosts to share hard disks and printers. As SUSE Linux Connectivity Server integrates existing Windows and/or MacOS clients into the new network, available hardware and software can continue to be used as usual.
The configuration of the Internet connection is performed with the help of the proven graphical SUSE installation and administration tool YaST2 (Yet another Setup-Tool). The so-called "Masquerading" support is especially useful for small enterprises. It enables several hosts in a company network to access the Internet by way of a single ISDN or ADSL connection. The SUSE Linux Connectivity Server includes a proxy service with caching functionality to minimize the transfer volume from the Internet and controls access to websites pertinent to a company's business operations.
Together with the so-called name server, the proxy server accelerates and enhances the utilization of the WWW. The integrated firewall reliably shields the company network from external attacks.
System Maintenance Guarantees Investment Security
SUSE Linux Connectivity Server is based on the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 operating system. Included in the purchase of the SUSE Linux
Connectivity Server is an active system maintenance to ensure the updated, secure, and stable state of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. SUSE regularly informs the server customers via e-mail about improvements and makes updates, fixes and patches available for download on the day of their release. The graphical installation tool YaST2 safely guides Linux newcomers through the system installation procedure.
SUSE Linux Connectivity Server will be available from SUSE or software retailers from mid-November. The recommended retail price for one server is $ 990 and includes a manual, 30 days of support, and 12 months of maintenance.
