Unable to send print jobs to SalsaFax on SLED 10

Environment

SLED 10
SalsaFax
AIX

Situation

When attempting to send a print job from an AIX machine to SLED 10 running SalsaFax, an error similar to the following is thrown on the AIX machine:

rembak: (WARNING): Connection to server timed out after retrying, errno=79

Resolution

The problem is that the SLED 10 machine is not listening on port 515.

Edit the /etc/xinetd.d/cups-lpd file.

Between the curly braces, include the following lines, along with the other lines already there:

{
disable = no
port = 515
}

Then, (as root) restart xinetd.d by entering the following command at a terminal prompt:

/etc/init.d/xinetd restart

You can verify that you are now listening on port 515 by entering the line:

netstat -nl |grep 515

You should see a line similar to the following:

tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:515 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
