lvcreate --snapshot creates unusable snapshots

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10


Situation

A command like
/sbin/lvcreate --size size --snapshot --name snap /dev/system/lvname
produces the following error messages:
ERROR: LV system/snap in use: not deactivating
ERROR:Couldn't deactivate new snapshot.
The snapshot is created but can not be mounted.

Resolution

The issue is fixed with lvm2-2.02.17-7.4 which is included in Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Additional Information

As a workaround :
insert the following line into/etc/udev/rules.d/64-device-mapper.rules:
KERNEL=="dm-[0-9]*", OPTIONS+="ignore_device"
