Kernel line in bootloader configuration missing after installation of SLE10 SP1 via Autoyast

This document (3926053) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Situation

You have created a autoyast installation file on a SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 GA system, however as an installation source, SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 Service Pack 1 is used. After performing an autoyast installation, the newly installed system does not boot. In the GRUB bootloader configuration file (/boot/grub/menu.lst) the kernel line is missing.

See the following example of an incomplete bootloader section:
title SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1
initrd (hd0,1)/initrd-2.6.16.46-0.12-smp

Resolution

Edit the autoyast xml file. In each section description (there are 2) replace the the following line:
<
kernel>/boot/vmlinuz
<
image>/boot/vmlinuz
Furtheron, replace the tags with , e.g.
<
vga>0x317
by
<
vgamode>0x317

Additional Information

The failure only occures in combination of an autoyast.xml file from a GA system with a SP1 installation source.
The failure does not occur, when using a SP1 autoyast.xml plus a SP1 installation source is used. Neither it occurs, if a GA autoyast.xml plus a GA installation source is used.
