OpenOffice hangs when opened via a VNC connection

This document (7002631) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 SP2

Situation

On KDE attempts to open OOo v3.0.0.4 using VNC fail.
It does not matter if the application is started through KDE menu or from console/xterm (/usr/bin/X11/OOo-calc for example).
Direct logins on workstations using local keyboard work just fine, so does ssh.

Symptoms:

OOo splash screen starts but the progress bar is not moving.
The only error displayed on a shell is:
Xlib:  extension
"XInputExtension" missing on display ":1.0"

Resolution

Workaround:

Create a shellscript /usr/local/bin/soffice with the following contents:
#!/bin/bash
OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=none /usr/bin/soffice
Start the script before starting OOo and OOo will start up fine.
