How to enable VNC connection to a server from SSH / Putty

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server

Situation

How to enable VNC connection to a server from SSH / Putty

Resolution

  1. Type vncserver and press Enter
  2. If it asks for a password, give it a password, hit Enter, and retype the password to verify
  3. When asked to enter a view-only password select y or n and proceed
  4. It should read New 'X' desktop is <ServerName> : <Port>
  5. It should also show it created a startup script, application, and log file
  6. Use any VNC Viewer Client and type IpAddress:Port (Port number that was shown in step 4)
    Example: 192.168.1.10:2 or Servername:2 then type the Password that was setup in step 3
