Removing old repositories during AutoYaST driven upgrade

This document (7023137) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 3 (SLES 12 SP3)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15
Autoyast

Situation

When performing upgrade via AutoYaST, there is no way to explicitly specify repositories which should be removed or disabled.

Resolution

Before performing upgrade via AutoYaST, repositories available in the system should be reviewed and either disabled or removed, (only those that are not available any more or contain packages not compatible with the new version). Otherwise, the respective media may be requested or incompatible or unsupported versions of some packages may end up being installed.

Cause

This problem does not exist for repositories delivered by SCC or SMT, as those get automatically removed when registering a new version of the product.

However, all other repositories stay intact; this includes any custom repositories as well as the initial installation repository or repository used to install modules, e.g. from DVD, if they were kept in the system.
