BIOS/Software defined MD RAID Disks are not listed in Guided Setup preventing ability to create partitions

This document (7023151) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15

Situation

While Installing SLES15, YaST Installer will not list in Guided Setup the MDRAID Virtual Disks created through OS or through Pre-OS Environment Interfaces.

Resolution

User Kernel Boot Parameter “LIBSTORAGE_MDPART=1” before starting installation of SLES15 to consider all Software RAIDs as BIOS RAID.

Cause

By design YaST installer will support installation only on real disks, Hardware RAID, Virtual disks and BIOS RAIDs.
It doesn’t support creation of partitions on MDRAID Virtual Disks created either through OS or through System BIOS User interfaces. Example: DellEMC S130/S140 Software RAID Solution.
