SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 2

Situation
Partition Errors During the Installation or Errors That Follow the First Reboot During the Installation.
Resolution
There could be several reasons as to why this is happening. However, the very best place to start troubleshooting is at the BIOS, RAID, SAN and/or other hardware configuration screens, and then proceed from there. Hence, the primary purpose of this document is to serve as an overview of how to most effectively troubleshoot these types of issues.
Here are a couple of examples as to why you should check your hardware configuration(s) first:
1. Sometimes there are flags that are set at the BIOS level that prevent the Operating System from booting properly.
2. There could be a setting in the BIOS that limits the amount of memory that is allocated to a given installation of the Operating System.
Therefore, you will want to do the following (in this order):
I. Make sure to check the hardware documentation in order to configure the BIOS, SAN, RAID or other piece of hardware so that it will do what you want it to do. You will then want to:
A. Configure it accordingly.
B. Verify that it will work to your satisfaction with the Operating System you are installing. In other words, make sure that you are familiar enough with the documentation that associated with the hardware such that you can re-configure it later if you need/desire to do that.
C. Both.
II. Make sure that you then check the SUSE website if your hardware is supported with the given Operating System.
III. Finally, make sure you check the SUSE documentation to make sure you know how to configure the software to work optimally with the hardware. Then, for example, when the time comes you will partition your RAID properly.
*. If your hardware does not meet the requirement(s) in (II), then you are welcome to try to install the Operating System. However, SUSE cannot make any reasonable guarantee the results of the installation. Also, any support from a SUSE Channel (Forums, Chat, e-mail, Phone, etc.) will be done on a commercially reasonable basis (i.e. best effort).
