Linux system doing port scans from port 137

This document (7003879) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE LINUX Desktop 1.0
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

Port scans being done to high ports of Windows systems from port 137 of the SLD system.

Resolution

Port 137 is the port used by Samba for Windows connectivity and discovery of services.  Disabling Samba stops the communication from port 137.
Proper configuration of Samba to be a member of the domain and communicate to the domain controller would also correct this problem.
