Supportability Analysis file (sam.txt) in supportconfig is emty

This document (7006331) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

Situation

After running supportconfig the created file sam.txt shows no information, however suse-sam rpm is installed. There are no error messages and the logfile (supportconfig.txt) shows that everything is OK.

The file sam.txt looks like below:
#==[ Verification ]=================================#
# rpm -V suse-sam-0.7.0-1.1
# Verification Status: Passed

#==[ Configuration File ]===========================#
# sam.log - File not found

Resolution

To get always the latest and actual meta data for suse-sam, there is an additional rpm (suse-sam-data) which will be installed after the first online update. This means that it is not on any installation source and DVD. Without that additional rpm the command sam could not provide any data.

Please Update you system to the latest patchlevel and check afterwards if suse-sam-data rpm is installed.

Additional Information

Running the command sam manually will give the following error if suse-sam-data is not installed:
FATAL: no reference repositories found, please check that you have suse-sam-data installed or specify the directory to -r option
