SLES11SP1 showing erratic mouse behavior with KVM / BCM solutions

This document (7006748) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1

Situation

On SLES11SP1 users may experience an erratic mouse behavior when using external KVM / BMC solutions using video redirection.

Resolution

Configure X to use the evdev driver for mouse and keyboard events instead of the default mouse and keyboard input drivers. For this to happen, the entry

Option "AutoAddDevices""on"

needs to get added to Section ServerFlags of /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Section "ServerFlags"
  Option       "AllowMouseOpenFail""on"
  Option       "ZapWarning""on"
  Option       "AutoAddDevices""on"
EndSection

Please note that KVM / BCM solutions may offer different acceleration modes (absolute (Windows), relative (Linux), none). It was reported to choose absolute mode to have the mouse working correctly.

Please reboot the system to have the changes become effective, a restart of X will not help.
