DUD" linuxrc parameter does not work on IBM System z

This document (7007999) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1

Situation

Situation applies to IBM System z (s390x)
The linuxrc DUD ("Driver Update Disk") parameter, which is needed to add updated drivers to the installation system, does not work when installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 on IBM System z. Loading the autoyast configuration file over the same network connection works, though.

Resolution

The network of the installation system does not get initialized before linuxrc attempts to load the DUD image via the specified network connection. A corrected initrd which substitutes the initrd from the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 installation media has been published as a mass PTF.
