Unable to mount SAP installation source shared via NFS

This document (7017248) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Application 12 Service Pack 1

Situation

Using the SAP Installation Wizard it is possible to share the installation sources to other server for a distributed installation.

In some rare cases, after trying to install from that NFS source, the Wizard reports an error like:

"mount.nfs: requested NFS version or transport protocol is not supported"

Resolution

On the system which is used for providing distributed installation source open a terminal window or switch to a virtual terminal.
Then acquire root shell and run:
# systemctl restart nfs-server
After the command successfully runs, confirm that NFS service is ready by running the command:
 # showmount -e
If the mount point appears in the output, NFS service was restarted successful.

Cause

Choosing to export SAP installation mediums over NFS to local area network and the server (physical or virtualised) has less than 4 CPU cores/8GB of RAM, there is a chance for the NFS service to malfunction and refuse to serve any file, in which case the NFS client fails to mount with error "requested NFS version or transport protocol is not supported".
