device_dax - probe of daxX.0 failed with error -16

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5

Situation

When Intel HBM CPU is set to flat mode, the following device_dax errors can be observed with dmesg:

[ 30.830305] device_dax: probe of dax2.0 failed with error -16
[ 30.830339] device_dax: probe of dax3.0 failed with error -16

'daxctl list -u' also lists duplicate entries for each node.

Resolution

The kernel update released July/2023, (kernel version 5.14.21-150500.55.7.1 ) includes the patch to resolve the problem.

Cause

The issue is caused by a duplicate 'hmem' device registration.
