SLED 10 : MPlayer plug-in for Firefox plays sound but does not display video

This document (3170791) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Situation

When visiting sites that utilize the MPlayer plug-in for Firefox, sound plays but there is no picture or visual images being displayed.

Resolution

A possible resolution is to alter the video output configuration option.
  1. Open /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf
  2. Locate the line for the video output (begins with "vo=").
  3. Remove the XVideo option ("xv").
  4. Save the file
  5. Restart Firefox and try the site again.
For example, a line consisting of :
vo=xv,x11
would be altered to read :
vo=x11
Upon restarting Firefox, the MPlayer plug-ins will attempt to use the x11 drivers for video output instead of the XVideo driver.
