Disabling Powersave Screen Saver on SUSE Linux

This document (3738295) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

The power save feature of SUSE Linux platforms is enabled by default and there appears to be no way to turn it off via YAST or other utilities.

Some users have reported that powersaving mode can interfere with OES clustering causing node castouts. It hasn't fully been established why powersaving might interfere with clustering but disabling it has been demonstrated to work for some users.

Resolution

The following command line will turn powersaving off permanently:

chkconfig powersaved off
