Screen is unreadable when using XEN kernel

This document (7006936) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1

Situation

The system is on  SLES11 SP1 patch level.
The system uses the Intel Corporation 82Q35 Express Integrated Graphics Controller.
When booting up with the XEN kernel, the screen is blank or distorted independent from the used runlevel. The system comes up properly and can be accessed via SSH and other remote services.
The screen is readable when booting up with the default kernel.

Resolution

The problem is reported to engineering.
As workaround the following kernel parameter is used

iommu=0

The parameter is passed to the kernel via the kernel options line at the GRUB boot screen.
