Using a custom KMP safely on SLES

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3

Situation

Sometimes it may be necessary to install a KMP package that is not provided by the distribution or from the PLDP. This TID documents a script to check the health of the server after the installation of unsupported modules and the possible situation you could find yourself in you do not.  


One KMP install could fail and leave the system in state preventing the proper installation of other KMP packages, even ones from the distribution. The KMP rpm will appear to install without error however the proper links will not be created.
