kdump hangs when triggered with "echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger" on HP DL 380 G6/G7

This document (7008516) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1

Situation

kdump/kexec is already installed and set up correctly; but an attempt to trigger a dump using the command:
echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger
does hang.

Resolution

This issue is quite likely related to the BIOS or disk controller firmware version being used.
An update to the BIOS version from January, 30 2011 (or later) is necessary to fix this problem. Please contact Hewlett Packard for both updates.
