Unable to start apache (98)Address already in use

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

Situation

Starting apache fails, displaying failed and the following error:
Starting httpd2 (prefork) (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:443
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs
startproc: exit status of parent of /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork: 1

Resolution

Edit /etc/apache2/listen.conf
Remove any duplicate entries such as:
Listen 443
Listen 443
Listen 80
Listen 80
Save and close the file.

Cause

Apache attempting to bind twice to the same port according to configuration.

Additional Information

Troubleshooting Steps:

Nothing else listening on specified port:
netstat -peanut | grep :443
No ghost process running of apache:
ps aux | grep -e apache -e http
