multipathd increments number of active paths beyond true value

Environment


SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (SLES 12)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)

Situation

Multipathd output seen in the messages log files:-

e.g.

...multipathd: cluster_lock_lun: remaining active paths: 9
...multipathd: cluster_lock_lun: remaining active paths: 10
...multipathd: cluster_lock_lun: remaining active paths: 11
...multipathd: cluster_lock_lun: remaining active paths: 12
...multipathd: cluster_lock_lun: remaining active paths: 13

etc.


Resolution

Fixed in the following multipathd versions:-

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4:    multipath-tools-0.4.9-122.1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (LTSS)            :    multipath-tools-0.5.0-42.15.1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1:    multipath-tools-0.5.0-62.1

Cause

Bug in multipathd.
