Lockup issues with Mozilla Firefox 52.3.0esr-72.9.1

This document (7022303) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4

Situation

After upgrading MozillaFirefox to version 52.3.0esr-72.9.1 the browser may 'lock up' while scrolling through web pages or when the browser window is resized.

Resolution

Disable the 'multi-process tabs' mode in FireFox. The configuration options are accessed by entering 'about:config' in the URL box.

Set the following configuration options to 'false':

  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

Cause

'multi-process tabs' are enabled by default. Under certain circumstances, this can lead to lockup issues.

Additional Information

Care should be taken not to accidentally change other FireFox settings whilst editing the configuration options.
