rpmdb_verify: /var/lib/rpm/Basenames: DB_VERIFY_BAD: Database verification failed

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12

Situation

rpmdb_verify command is getting the following messages:
# /usr/lib/rpm/rpmdb_verify /var/lib/rpm/Basenames
rpmdb_verify: Page 1424: unreferenced page
rpmdb_verify: Page 1424: totally zeroed page
...
rpmdb_verify: Page 1443: unreferenced page
rpmdb_verify: Page 1443: totally zeroed page
rpmdb_verify: /var/lib/rpm/Basenames: DB_VERIFY_BAD: Database verification failed

Resolution

Try to run the following to ebuild RPM database.

1. Backup of RPM database
mkdir /tmp/rpm_backup
rsync -av /var/lib/rpm/. /tmp/rpm_backup/.
2. Rebuild RPM database
rpm -vv --rebuilddb > /tmp/rpm_rebuilddb.log 2>&1
3. Check if there are no more messages/errors
/usr/lib/rpm/rpmdb_verify /var/lib/rpm/Basenames

Cause

/var/lib/rpm/Basenames is broken and this should be fixed by rebuilding the RPM database.
