Using Firefox to download a file with a long name causes Nautilus to crash.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or Desktop 11 SP1
 

Situation

On a GNOME Desktop with Firefox browser, this problem was originally discovered when attempting to download a Bomgar session file.  The file for the client download has a long name similar to "bomgar-scc-w05c30e61i16fdz8dezg86i6fy8yxih7yfd8hec40jc90.desktop".

When Firefox is set to download the file automatically to the users desktop Nautilus will fail.  The desktop icons will disappear and functionality of the desktop will be limited until a forced reboot is done or Nautilus is killed from a terminal.

Resolution

A work around is to change the download directory from ~/Desktop to anything else.

A fix has been provided by engineering and will be included in the post SP1 updates.  Look for a nautilus version greater than 2.28.4-1.10.1 provided through the update channel.
