SMT Cannot connect to local MYSQL server after updating the SMT server

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)

Situation

After patching the SLES 12 SP2 SMT server the following error occurs when running SMT commands:

DBI connect('database=smt;host=localhost','smt',...) failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (13 "Permission denied") at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.18.2/SMT/Utils.pm line 127.

Resolution

Downgrade the mariadb rpms to the following versions:

mariadb-10.0.29-22.1
mariadb-client-10.0.29-22.1
mariadb-errormessages-10.0.29-22.1


zypper in --oldpackage mariadb-10.0.29-22.1 mariadb-client-10.0.29-22.1 mariadb-errormessages-10.0.29-22.1



Reboot the server.

Cause

A bug has been opened for the issue to find the root cause of the problem.
