NVIDIA Card not working after installing NVIDIA drivers in SLED

This document (7022991) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

The system is running SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop with a dedicated NVIDIA graphics card.
UEFI Secure-Boot option is enabled.

Situation

Graphical mode is not available and in syslog appears:

modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia': Required key not available

Resolution

Disable secure-boot in UEFI

Cause

The NVIDIA kernel module is not signed with the necessary key to be accepted by UEFI secure boot.
UEFI Secure Boot will prevent loading unsigned third party modules.

Additional Information

The NVIDIA installer can generate key pairs but this will not be supported by SUSE.

A supported solution would be to blacklist the nivida kernel module and use the nouveau driver instead.
Nouveau comes with the SUSE kernel and is signed with the necessary keys.
