Unable to start vxlan configuration with wicked using ifup

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 Service Pack 5
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 Service Pack 4

Situation

When trying to start a vxlan configuration using ifup, the following errors are seen:
 
localhost:~ # ifup vxlan0
vxlan0          no-device
 
localhost:~ # systemctl status wickedd.service 
● wickedd.service - wicked network management service daemon
     Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/wickedd.service; indirect; vendor preset: disabled)

Feb 08 22:54:07 localhost wickedd[886]: vxlan0: unable to create vxlan interface



 

Resolution

For SLES15 SP5, this is fixed in a maintenance release:

          wicked-0.6.74-150500.3.15.1


For SLES15 SP4, this is fixed in LTSS maintenance release:

          wicked-0.6.74-150400.3.13.1


The package changelog contains entry:  + vxlan: don't format unknown rtnl attrs (bsc#1219751)

Cause

This problem was due to a bug.
