Appliance Powers New Business Model To Customers, Channel Partners And OEMs

BARCELONA, Spain (BrainShare® Europe 2004)

Underscoring their close cooperative relationship and joint commitment to provide innovative, secure and scalable enterprise solutions, Tarantella and Novell (Nasdaq: NOVL) today announced an OEM agreement to enable the development of the new Tarantella Secure Global Desktop Software Appliance. This new software appliance will provide distinct business and functional advantages to customers, while enabling OEM and channel partners to sell more integrated, comprehensive solutions.

Secure Global Desktop Software Appliance will be comprised of the Tarantella Secure Global Desktop Enterprise Edition 4 software pre-bundled with Novell's SUSE Enterprise Linux Server 9. An intuitive, easy to use Tarantella installer and configuration wizard allows customers to remove the complexities of the installation process, getting users up and running much faster and with fewer Linux systems admin skills required. This appliance also allows OEMs to easily pre-install the Secure Global Desktop Software Appliance on their hardware products without requiring any end-user configuration data such as IP addresses, host names or domain names. Once purchased, users can then configure the appliance to their environment with a simple configuration wizard-without entering any information at the operating system level.

The first example of such an OEM appliance, Secure Global Desktop For BladeCenter, was announced at LinuxWorld 2004. Tarantella's Secure Global Desktop for BladeCenter is a hardware appliance featuring the Tarantella Secure Global Desktop Enterprise Edition 4 software pre-installed via the Secure Global Desktop Software Appliance on a Blade designed for the IBM eserver BladeCenter HS20 and HS40.

"Secure Global Desktop Software Appliance extends Tarantella's leadership in secure, scalable enterprise solutions in the Linux market," said Steve Bannerman, Tarantella's Chief Marketing Officer. "The combination of Secure Global Desktop Enterprise Edition and Novell SUSE 9 offers Linux customers unprecedented ease in the installation and configuration of both products, while also offering our OEM and channel partners exciting new business opportunities. We're pleased to partner with Novell to bring next-generation solutions to the Linux market."

"Novell's SUSE Enterprise Linux Server 9 is rapidly becoming the Linux platform of choice for enterprise applications," commented Johan Rosius, Vice President, Alliances, Novell EMEA. "The Tarantella Secure Global Desktop Software Appliance represents a significant step forward in ease of installation for these applications. Novell shares Tarantella's innovative approach to the Linux market and we're very excited to be part of the Secure Global Desktop Software Appliance."

Secure Global Desktop Enterprise Edition (EE) is the only integrated application management and access solution to encompass an unprecedented range of server-based applications from Linux to Microsoft Windows, UNIX, IBM 32xx and AS/400 systems while enabling an extensive array of client platforms. Secure Global Desktop EE's three-tiered design is engineered to support open standards such as Java technology, SSL, LDAP, SSH and X11. Optimized for the most rigorous security, scalability and network performance requirements, EE is the ideal solution for cost-effective legacy application migration as well as an indispensable tool for ensuring business continuance in disaster scenarios.

The Tarantella Secure Global Desktop Virtual Software Appliance will be available in the fourth quarter of 2004 from Tarantella's reseller and OEM partners.
