Activating NFSv4 support

This document (3810283) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

You are setting up a NFS server and want to enable the version 4 protocol.

Resolution

Either configure it with YaST or edit the file/etc/sysconfig/nfs by changing the following line from

NFS4_SUPPORT="no"

to

NFS4_SUPPORT="yes"

After that simply start the NFS with the command

rcnfsserver start

You can check if the server is running correctly with the version 4 protocol with the command:

cat /proc/fs/nfsd/versions

This should list the following:

+2 +3 +4

If version 4 would have been disable it would show "-4" instead of"+4".

Note: on the client side the NFS version is detected automatically.
