Here When You Need Us

Systems with more the 5TB of memory will not complete boot of the XEN hypervisor kernel.

This document (7016508) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 (SLES 11 SP3)

Situation

Systems with more the 5TB of memory will not complete boot of the XEN hypervisor kernel.

Resolution

A fix is available with xen-4.2.4_04-0.9.1 which allows the system to boot and simply does not use the memory above 5TB.

Prior to xen-4.2.4_04-0.9.1 this issue may be worked around by booting with a mem= argument.
mem must be set to a value lower than 5 TB then.
