Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 12

Situation

Newly installed application does not show up in the 'Open With' application list in Nautilus.

Resolution

Certain newly installed applications do not show up in the 'Open With' application list in Nautilus. The following steps will solve this problem:

  1. Open a terminal and change to the root user.
  2. Change into the directory: /usr/share/applications/
  3. Find and edit the file: <your_appliaction>.desktop
  4. Find and edit the line: Exec=<your_application> 
  5. Proceed and change the line into: Exec=<your_application> %U
  6. Save the changes
Now the application will show up in the 'Open With' application list.
