Public Cloud On-Demand Virtual Machines (VM’s) has an incorrect ‘baseproduct’ link in /etc/products.d

Environment
Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Compute Platform (GCP) on-demand VM for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications (SLES for SAP)
*******************************
This article does not apply to BYOS (Bring your own subscription) images for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications
*********************************
Situation
The SUSE Public Cloud engineering team builds SLES for SAP images for AWS, Azure and GCP. For each image published, there are two payment options for the image: BYOS and on-demand. The on-demand virtual machines are configured to connect to the SUSE Public Cloud Update Infrastructure which is maintained by the SUSE Public Cloud Engineering team.
The on-demand image created for SLES for SAP 15 and SLES for SAP 12 SP3 had an incorrect product link for the baseproduct in the /etc/products.d directory. The image for the public cloud products has been updated to correct the issue, but customers that launched vms using the image will have an incorrect baseproduct link.
Below is an example of an improperly configured baseproduct link:
# ls -l /etc/products.d
total 36
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2964 May 4 2018 SLES_SAP.prod
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 Aug 14 2018 baseproduct -> sle-module-toolchain.prod
The incorrect baseproduct link prevents the client from subscribing to the SLES for SAP repositories after registration to the Public Cloud Update Infrastructure. The registration client will also generate errors in /var/log/cloudregister similar to the errors below.
ERROR:Baseproduct registration failed
ERROR: Error: Registration server returned 'Unmet product dependencies, activate one of these products first: ....
Additionally, the customer may only see one or two subscribed repositories.
# zypper lr
# | Alias | Name | Enabled | GPG Check | Refresh
--+-------------------------+-------------------------+---------+-----------+---------
1 | nVidia-Driver-SLE12-SP3 | nVidia-Driver-SLE12-SP3 | No | ---- | ----|
Resolution
The resolution steps are:
1. Remove the incorrect baseproduct key.
# cd /etc/products.d
# unlink baseproduct
2. Recreate the symbolic link to the SLES_SAP product file.
# ln -s SLES_SAP.prod baseproduct
# ls -l /etc/products.d
total 36
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2964 May 4 2018 SLES_SAP.prod
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jul 6 21:41 baseproduct -> SLES_SAP.prod
3. Register the server to the public cloud.
# registercloudguest --force-new
4. Repository refresh.
# zypper refresh
