Fiber Channel (FC) Recovery fails on qlogic HBA

This document (7005436) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3

Situation

This is an environment with SAN/Storage, with (Brocade) Switch and Qlogic QLE2562 HBAs in the servers.
A SPEED of 8GB/s is configured on the HBA and on the Switch.

When the link gets lost through a cable unplug or Switch reboot, the link does not come back after respectively
cable replugging, or reboot of the Switch.

Resolution

This was a bug in the qlogic firmware.
A fix is already available. Do the following to fix the issue:

- Download and install the latest qlogic-firmware released in March, 2010.
- Rebuild the initrd (using mkinitrd)
- Reboot the system
- Verify that the new firmware is loaded (fw=5.03.01 or higher) by using for instance

dmesg|grep ISP2532:
ISP2532: PCIe (5.0GT/s x4) @ 0000:04:00.0 hdma+, host#=3, fw=5.03.01 (d5)
